European legal advisor

FEP is the umbrella organisation for 29 national publishers associations in Europe. The associations represented by FEP are active in the field of books, learned journals and educational content in all formats.

To support the team in our Brussels office we are currently seeking a European legal advisor.

Your role will be to support FEP’s work in Europe. You will analyse and evaluate all legal and regulatory developments relevant to publishing. You will advise the Federation and its member associations, primarily on current legal matters relating to copyright and internet policies. You will help organise meetings and representing FEP externally. One area of focus will be drawing up policy analyses, establishing FEP’s positions, and producing statements, taking into account the technological and economic developments within the publishing industry.

Your remit in detail:
• Monitoring legal and policy developments at European level;
• Developing and coordinating positions, public statements, and briefings, and drafting lobby and communication plans;
• Representing the association’s interests when dealing with various target groups (e.g. EU institutions, industry coalitions) by attending hearings, conferences, etc.;
• Leading the legal working group and responding to member enquiries.
You possess the following skills:
• You have a degree in law;
• You are familiar with copyright law and EU policies in the field of copyright and the internet;
• You have gained at least three years of relevant professional experience, e.g. at a publishing house, in an interest group or at a political institution;
• You have practical experience of the procedures at the European and national institutions and regulatory authorities;
• You have an excellent command of English; a good command of French and/or German is also desirable;
• You combine the ability to work within a small team with a willingness to take personal initiative.
